Whenever parents are in town, we think of a place that we could drive away to for a weekend. However, due to time constraints, this time we decided to only make a day trip. Now, for a day trip there are fewer options and because we had already been to Innovative Film City our list was shorter. However, we had heard that a few new things had opened up at Innovative Film City, like the haunted mansion, a village style theatre, the wild wild west and a miniature city!
So decision made, we were off at a reasonably early time to avoid the traffic. This time, we decided to take a different route through the city and tried going to Mysore Road via the Outer Ring Road. It was a bad decision. There were way too many stoppages and a lot of traffic which caused us unnecessary delays. Finally, we were on Mysore road, and were making up time. We got to Innovative Film City so early that they were not to open for another half an hour! So, we went back to Mysore Road to look for a place to eat breakfast. Just before the turn off for Innovative Film City is a small south indian restaurant which makes amazing dosas, idlis and wadas. We had a really really heavy breakfast there and enjoyed the wildlife around us. There are live turkeys and ducks around there. One duck was very engrossed in its own reflection in a shiny black car.
After breakfast, we made our way to IFC. This time we were keen only to see those attractions which we had not seen last time. So, we had an agenda. We went straight to the Innovative Talkies, which shows really old movies in village style. We were the only ones in the next show, so we requested for a screening of Mughle Azam! We were to sit on tin chairs and watch the movie in a small hut. They don't play the entire movie, it's a short film with important clips from the movie. However, the experience is really authentic. Our parents were back to their college days when the theatre was full of the sound from the running projector with booming acoustics and the clanging bell to announce the interval! It was quite an experience!
Next we moved onto The Wild Wild West, which basically is an enclosure made in the style of the wild west.
In the wild wild west, you can check out your shooting skills by trying to shoot glass bottles with an air gun. Its fun, but really really difficult!
There is also a restaurant, styled like in the wild west.
You could ride a horse. We walked about a bit and clicked photos and moved on to the real reason we were here.
We went to the Haunted Mansion which was a new attraction. It is very well done and quite frightening.
You may think that just because you see what is scaring the people in front of you, you are prepared. But nothing prepares you for the persistence of the 'ghosts'! One 'ghost' stalked us for a stretch of time, and it got really creepy! Sadly we could not take pictures of our fear!
Finally, we headed to the Miniature City, which is quite a unique attraction. Everything is small and quite well made. It had a mini train track and a very realistic airport hanger.
This was a picture taking paradise. One could spend hours clicking photos here. Two things we could not understand were why the mobile phones were so large in a miniature city, and why did they have arms and legs? Still a fun place to see.
Innovative Film City continues to provide wholesome family entertainment, and there is constant improvement in terms of attractions and food options!
